Millions of lower- and middle-class Californians risk their financial and literal lives with no health insurance coverage; governments and businesses are breaking under the crushing weight of escalating healthcare costs; and the situation worsens significantly each year.

The federal government has failed to act. It falls upon California to lead to a solution on health care access and financing reform. The stakes are high and demand that we get it right. The worst possible situation, and the most expensive option, is that we do nothing. The status quo is not acceptable.
